Zahra is a partner at Laurel Family Law LLP. She is an experienced family lawyer, mediator, and arbitrator, assisting clients in resolving family law disputes with clarity, compassion, and practical insight.
Before entering the practice of law, Zahra worked with human rights organizations in Pakistan, Thailand, and New York. These experiences deeply inform her client-centred approach and her commitment to resolving family law matters in a manner that is fair, respectful, and responsive to each family’s unique circumstances.
Zahra has extensive experience at all levels of court. While she strongly believes in resolving disputes outside the courtroom whenever possible—through negotiation, mediation, or arbitration—she is a skilled advocate who regularly represents clients before judges and arbitrators when litigation is necessary. She also has extension appellate experience and has assisted many clients with appeals.
Zahra is also a panel lawyer for the Office of the Children’s Lawyer, where she represents children and ensures their voices are heard in family law proceedings. She brings this aspect of her experience to all her work in assisting families resolve issues.
Zahra is an active and respected member of the legal community. She serves as an executive member of the Family Law Section of the Ontario Bar Association and as an executive member of the Mid-Career Standing Committee (MASC) of The Advocates’ Society serving on the Diversity and Inclusion Steering Committee and the Governance Committee.
Her commitment to access to justice extends beyond her practice. Zahra is the Law Foundation of Ontario’s representative on the Ontario Justice Education Network (OJEN) Board of Directors and is the Chair of the Governance and Nominations Committee of Kinvia (formerly Canadian Feed the Children).
Outside of her practice, Zahra is the proud parent of two boys and two cats (one for each child, to avoid disputes). She enjoys travelling with her children, exploring the world together, and continuing to learn—most recently by improving her French as she tries to keep pace with her children in French immersion.
